Fancourt Golf Estate, George

Sophisticated Contemporary Dwelling

The dwelling was divided into smaller human scaled architectural elements.

This Sophisticated Contemporary Dwelling in Fancourt Golf Estate, George, boasts stunning views of the golf course, with a design that seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces.

The open-plan living area is centered around a grand Cape Dutch-style fireplace, adding warmth and character. A striking exotic wine rack next to the kitchen island blends style and functionality.

For outdoor entertaining, the covered barbecue stoep features full-height frameless glass panels, offering protection from the south-eastern winds while preserving unobstructed views.

A large covered patio with frameless glass panels acts as transition between outdoor and indoor spaces.
The main entrance is accentuated with a timber deck and pergola structure. The entrance axis also features a focal garden.

The main entrance is framed by a timber deck and a reflecting pergola, with its axis aligned to an exotic garden at the rear of the house. This design creates a natural flow between the front and back outdoor spaces.

To open up the entryway, the garage was positioned to one side, allowing for a courtyard-style entrance with an internal feature garden. This courtyard brings abundant natural light into the surrounding rooms, including the study, which directly opens onto it.

A walkway between the garage and the main living area features large windows that offer serene views of the courtyard, enhancing the sense of tranquility as one arrives or departs the home.

The main bedroom is positioned on the ground floor, northeast-facing, with matching guest quarters above, allowing for morning sunlight.

Sliding louvers, steel pergolas, and large roof overhangs protect against overheating while allowing limited light penetration.

A central garden, visible between the bedroom and living areas, links the indoor spaces with the outdoor environment.

This garden also form a visual feature from the entrance door and focus point en-route to the living areas.

Two opulent bedrooms are provided with aluminium sliding screens and steel pergolas to provide shelter from harsh north sun.

“A house is a machine for living in.”
