Moose Valley Basecamps

Moose Valley Basecamps consists of 2x small projects on the farm Moose Valley, close to Vanwyksdorp in the Klein Karoo.

 

Both building sites have compelling and uninterrupted north facing views over the Rooiberg Mountain.

A sweeping 'bird's wing' roof structure provides shade from the scorching sun, to a fully detached accommodation structure underneath.

 

This setup also allows for airflow between the dwelling and roof above - providing further passive cooling.

A rudimentary base camp is provided for people who enjoy weekend breakaways in nature and trail walking.

 

We tried to capture the spirit of surviving in the harsh Klein Karoo environment, and purposefully expose the visitors to some limited unpleasantness - like outside toilets (without the long drop).
