So Who Is Renier?

From a young age, I was in awe of and captivated by my father's large drawing board. He was an engineer and inspired my fascination with design. This interest deepened when I read Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, which greatly influenced my decision to pursue a career as an architect.
I studied at the University of Port Elizabeth, where I earned my Bachelor of Building Arts, followed by a Bachelor of Architecture in 1996.
My early career began as a candidate architect in Tableview, after which I joined an architectural firm in Franschhoek, where I honed my skills for three years before accepting a position in Paarl.
In 2001, driven by a desire to broaden my horizons and gain international experience, I relocated to Antwerp, Belgium. For six years, I worked as a project architect, immersing myself in the world of modern and contemporary architecture.
My time in Europe was transformative, allowing me to explore the intricate relationship between modern design and historical elements. I developed a deep appreciation for the juxtaposition of old and new, which continues to influence my work today.
I returned to South Africa in September 2007, and as fortune would have it, I met my future wife just three weeks later. With my elderly parents having retired in Hartenbos, I chose to settle in the picturesque Garden Route.
I joined a local architectural firm in George, where I reacquainted myself with South African architectural practices and construction methods.
From 2009 to 2011, I served as chairman of the Southern Cape Chapter of the Cape Institute for Architecture, allowing me to contribute to the local architectural community and advocate for best practices in our region.
In 2012, I took the exciting step of starting my own practice, Renier Prins Architects, based in George, Southern Cape. Since then, I have not looked back.
I remain actively involved in all projects, ensuring a hands-on approach that reflects my commitment to excellence.
While our practice fosters a relaxed and informal culture, I take the trust my clients place in me very seriously. My goal is to provide each client with a pleasurable experience and a superb product that truly embodies their vision.
